This book was initiated by the opinion of a few professors who wanted to hold a simple academic event to summarize and evaluate the May Movement. Since the summer of 1994, these professors have already been holding a place for reading and discussion related to May 18 about once a month under the name of the ‘May 18 Research Group’. Considering that the existing 5·18 is generally declarative, macroscopic, and inclusive, they shared the view that it is necessary to advance social scientific analysis on more specific and diverse topics. An academic symposium with the theme of 'Development and Succession of the May 18 Movement' was held in 1996 as a part of the May 18th commemoration event. This book consists of the content presented there and other articles by researchers participating in this meeting. - During the publication of the ‘May 18 Research Series’ -
