In 1969, the Park Chung-hee administration passed a constitutional amendment bill, which permitted the reelection of the president three times in the National Assembly as part of a long-term power conspiracy. In 1971, the regime enforced military training education in colleges to strengthen its control over universities and won the election through corruptive measures in the 7th Presidential Election. University students and professors waged various anti-dictatorship struggles against the Park regime, including opposition activities against the constitutional amendment and military training, and condemnation of electoral fraud. The Park Chung-hee administration ordered the closure of eight universities, including CNU, in 1971 due to student resistance. As a result of this series of incidents, 33 CNU students were subject to academic discipline.
