CNU students conducted various campaigns to study and correct social contradictions. A number of ideological, religious, and literary groups such as the Democratic Redeemer's Council led by the people related to the Mincheonghakryun, the Catholic Farmers' Association, the National Social Research Association, the Deulbul Night School for workers, RUSA (Association for Classical Reading), and the Heung Sa Dahn-Young Korean Academy were created. These social groups and movements played a pivotal role as driving forces in the democratization movement that developed in the early 1980s.
