In 1950, born in Imgok-myeon, Gwangsan-gun, South Jeolla Province.

In 1971, entered the CNU Department of Political Science and International Relations. Joined CNU theater class with friends Kim Seok-gyun and Jung Oh-hyun.

In 1975, meeting with Kim Sang-yoon, who became a decisive figure in his life after completing his military service.

In 1978, after hearing about the “Our Aim of Education” incident, he left the housing bank in Seoul where he worked and then returned to Gwangju.

In 1978, worked at Hannam Plastics in Gwangcheon Industrial Complex.

In 1979, lectured on the subject of General Society for 16 months as a teacher at the Deulbul Night School.

In 1980, participated as a promoter at a rally to form the National Democratic Workers' Federation held in Incheon, and was appointed as a central member representing the Gwangju and South Jeolla Province.

On May 18, 1980, participated in the fight against the paratroopers massacring Gwangju citizens.

 

Why Did You Pick up a Gun?

When the May 18 Democratization Movement began, Yoon published the Tusahoebo (Journal of Activists) in the Wildfire Night School to inform the horrors of the Gwangju Massacre and lead the struggle systematically. On May 26, he held a foreign press conference at the provincial government office as a spokesperson for the Citizens Committee. When asked, "Why did you pick up a gun?" Yoon answered as follows.

The citizens of Gwangju stood up to expose the plot of the Chun Doo-hwan coup detat to rob the power and protect the democracy of the Republic of Korea.

At 4 a.m. on May 27, the last group of participants met their end while fighting the paratroopers at the Jeollanam Provincial Office. In 1982, in the “soul wedding” of Yoon with Park Ki-soon, who led him to the Wildfire Night School, March for the Beloved was sung for the first time.
