The Park Chung-hee regime declared the Yushin order on January 17, 1972. The Yushin order was a complete negation of democracy, which allowed a president to hold office for an unlimited period by concentrating power. Freedom of the press has been suppressed and the university has been devastated by repeated guard orders, emergency measures, and school closures.
