In 1974, students from Seoul National University, CNU, and Kyungpook National University organized the Mincheonghakryun (National Federation of Democratic Youth and Students) to oppose the Yushin order and to overcome economic and social contradictions. The government promulgated Emergency Measure No. 4, arresting students associated with the group on charges of conspiracy to revolt and sentenced them to severe punishment, including the death penalty. Eighteen CNU students were sentenced to heavy sentences, including Yun Han-bong (Department of Animal Science 71’, General manager of North and South Jeolla Provinces) and Kim Sang-yun (Department of Korean Language and Literature 68’, Liaison manager of CNU).
